Biography
b. 1995, Hong Kong
Joseph Leung Mong-sum is a Hong Kong-based artist who graduated from the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong with first class honors, and went on an exchange program at the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University in New York. He later graduated from the MFA program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and will commence his PhD project at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna (Angewandte) in 2022.
Leung’s research surrounds existential themes in the contemporary and digtial milieu, under which our daliy life is composed of an entanglement between various socio, political and existential phenomena.
He co-founded the Negative Space, a Hong Kong-based artspace that focuses on lens-based media practices and is one of the participating art spaces in the “2020Solidarity” project organized by Between Bridges and Wolfgang Tillmans. Recently, Leung has been shortlisted for the 24th ifva Awards (Media Arts category), Hong Kong Human Rights Art Prize 2018 and the WMA Masters Photographic Awards 2017/18. His works are included in collections based in Hong Kong, Basel, Luxembourg and Paris.
Currently, Leung is a lecturer of the Imaging Design and Digital Art program at the Department of Creative Arts, Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
